You gotta love science toys! Even though I know nothing about how they work, they're certainly super-fun to play with. Take for instance this new thing called The Wozz. It's a unique spinning top with a twist (literally), that can actually stay spinning for more than 30 minutes. The unique top lets you explore some mind-boggling science tricks that show you the physical effects of a spinning body in a much more direct way.
How it works is, you not only spin it like a top, but you also spin the disc on the end of it with a piece of Kevlar string. You wind it up, and pull it to get the disc spinning as fast as you can. This way the disc will get spinning at speeds of up to 10,000 RPM, which allows it to stay spinning for so long.
Using the unique effects of a spinning body at such an extreme rate, you can even flip the top over on the other end and balance it on the tip of your finger while it defies gravity. You can even move your hand or finger around and it will stay perfectly balanced.
The gyroscopic spinning top comes in two different versions, one that is made from aluminum that can stay spinning for over 12 minutes, and a steel version that can stay spinning for over 30 minutes.
Each Wozz spinning top can do a bunch of unique science tricks, such as balancing on your fingertip, balancing in the palm of your hand, spinning on the opposite side of the top, balancing from a string, a dancing spin on a table, and more.
The Wozz spinning top comes with The Wozz itself which is made up of a disc, a precision ball-bearing, an axle/handle, an end cap that helps it grip onto surfaces, along with hardened precision steel balls on both ends of the top that are treated for extra-low friction. The Wozz also comes with a high-tech kevlar string that's attached to a wooden ball that you use to wind up the top to get it spinning.
The Wozz spinning top measures 5 1/8 inches tall x 3.5 inches in diameter, and weighs 5 oz or 12 oz depending on the version you get.
The incredible 30 minute spinning top is currently in a funding phase on Kickstarter with an estimated delivery date of July 2017, so go reserve yours now, and be sure to check out the unique sciencey spinning top in action via the video below.
