It is part of the limited-edition collaboration between Brabantia and British-Nigerian artist and designer Yinka Ilori. The collection gives everyday chores a much brighter uniform.

That is an appealingly specific ambition. You might not need another decorative object competing for shelf space. You almost certainly need somewhere to put the packaging from the last decorative object. Here, the practical object gets to have the personality.

A trash can that refuses to wear beige

The cylindrical body has a sunny yellow upper section, orange lines that turn into waves, and little turquoise dots punctuating the pattern. Lower down, orange and purple stripes meet a yellow band. A yellow lid finishes the look, while the black pedal sits at the bottom looking reassuringly ready for work.

The actual product carries the collection’s “There is Magic in Joy” message around that lower band. That is a surprisingly uplifting thing to encounter while throwing away a receipt for something you regret buying. At least one object in the kitchen is maintaining a positive attitude.

This is a freestanding bin meant to be seen. Tucking it into a dark cupboard would feel a little like buying a sequined jacket exclusively for taking out the recycling. The tight-closing lid is also described by Brabantia as odour-proof. That makes it a useful part of an everyday kitchen setup, though it is still a bin that needs emptying and cleaning. Cheerful colors do not cancel the laws of old food. They simply make the container more enjoyable to look at between trips outside.

A soft, non-slip base helps keep it in place and protects the floor from scratching, while an anti-tilting block adds stability during use. Those are the details that make a pretty object easier to live with. A bin that shuffles away every time you use the pedal would turn dinner cleanup into a very small pursuit sport.

The 30L NewIcon is tall and fairly narrow, but the complete footprint deserves a look before you choose its home. Brabantia lists a height of 67.9 centimeters, a width and diameter of 29.3 centimeters, and a length of 38 centimeters. That last measurement matters when planning space around the whole bin, including its projecting parts.

Leave room above it for the lid to open and room in front to reach the pedal comfortably. Sliding any pedal bin under a low shelf can turn a simple disposal task into an argument with the furniture. A quick measurement is less exciting than choosing colors, but considerably more useful than discovering the lid only opens three inches.

There is one compartment inside. If you separate several waste streams, plan for additional containers rather than expecting this cylinder to become a complete recycling station. It can play the lead role beautifully, but it has not secretly hired a supporting cast behind the lid.

The collection is bigger than one very cheerful bin

Brabantia’s wider collaboration includes other bin formats, laundry pieces, and food-and-drink items. The collection photographs show how the same visual language runs across different household jobs. A drying rack and a rubbish bin can apparently belong to the same well-dressed family.

That distinction is worth making before you fall in love with a photograph and expect an entire coordinated housekeeping department to arrive in one box.

You also do not have to buy the whole collection to make the idea work. One striking utility object is enough to change the feel of a corner. Pairing it with a plain wall or simple cabinetry lets the pattern be the attraction, without requiring every appliance to audition for a circus.

Useful details beneath the party clothes

The removable bucket is especially welcome because the inside of a bin eventually requires attention, however artistically the outside is behaving. Lifting the inner container out gives you a separate piece to clean, rather than making you wrestle the entire decorated steel body through a sink-side obstacle course.

Those are manufacturer specifications; local recycling options still matter. The strongest audience is easy to picture: someone who likes functional household objects but is tired of choosing between white, black, and a finish called something like Sensible Steel. This has the familiar mechanics of a pedal bin and the visual confidence of a room that already knows what music it wants to play.
