The lawn has a remarkable arrangement with its owner: it grows whenever it likes, and you cancel your Saturday plans to deal with it. MAMMOTION’s LUBA 4 AWD robotic lawn mower proposes a different arrangement. A squat, wheeled garden rover does the cutting while you supervise from a chair, preferably with the expression of someone who personally engineered the entire operation.

Introduced at IFA 2026, the LUBA 4 AWD is an upcoming mower series for substantial lawns. Its most interesting trick is bidirectional mowing: it can change its direction of travel without swinging through a full U-turn. Add independently steered front wheels, and the pitch becomes less about simply automating a chore and more about how the machine treats the grass beneath it.
That distinction matters. Buying a robot to keep the lawn attractive loses some of its charm if the robot spends every turnaround rehearsing a tiny monster-truck show. Mammotion is aiming for gentler movement between mowing passes, with less wheel scrubbing and less repeated pivoting in one spot.
A mower with somewhere to go in either direction
The design looks like a small exploration vehicle that took a wrong turn and found gainful employment in landscaping. There is an angular white body, chunky dark wheels, bright orange lower panels, and a raised sensing assembly on top. It is pleasingly serious about a job that mostly involves shortening a plant.
Each front wheel has its own steering motor. Instead of relying entirely on wheel-speed differences to drag the machine around a corner, the front wheels can point into the turn. Think about the difference between walking around your coffee table and shoving a heavy chair sideways around it. Your rug probably has a preference.
The bidirectional system then gives the mower another way to move into its next pass. Cameras facing different directions help support that movement. Mammotion describes the combination as a way to reduce harsh turns and protect turf, although the finished lawn will remain the meaningful test of those claims.

This is a much more interesting use of robotics than adding a screen to something that never needed one. The mechanical problem is visible: the mower has to reach the end of a strip, reposition, and do it again. Repeating that maneuver across a large property makes even a small improvement worth paying attention to.
Three ways to keep its bearings
Navigation combines 360-degree LiDAR, NetRTK positioning, and four cameras. Mammotion calls the combination Tri-Fusion. In everyday terms, the mower uses several kinds of information to work out where it is and what surrounds it, instead of asking one sensing method to handle every tree, shadow, and awkward corner.
The announced setup does not require buried boundary wire or a separate RTK base station. That is appealing if your idea of buying a labor-saving machine does not include first spending a weekend installing its invisible garden railway. The company’s iNavi positioning service is included for the product’s lifetime, with local coverage worth checking.

The useful points are straightforward, even if the terminology sounds like a spacecraft briefing:

The series has three announced models. The names are unusually helpful: 3000F, 6000F, and 12000F correspond to their stated coverage in square meters. For anyone whose mental measuring system is mostly “a lot of mowing,” the differences are easier to compare side by side.

The largest model is not simply the same mower with a grander sense of purpose. Its wider, three-disc arrangement changes the cutting hardware. There is also a compatibility catch: Mammotion says the optional edge-trimming module is not compatible with the 12000F. Anyone focused on boundary trimming should notice that before automatically choosing the biggest version.
The accessory costs extra, too. A mower and a mower with its available attachment are different purchases, however efficiently a glamorous lawn photograph encourages the brain to combine them. The basic mowing system and the optional finishing tool deserve separate consideration.

For lawns that forgot to be flat
Mammotion rates the AWD platform for slopes up to 80 percent, equivalent to about 38.6 degrees. That is a gradient figure, not an 80-degree climbing claim. The mower also has adaptive suspension and floating cutting decks, all aimed at ground that offers more variety than a billiard table.
The appeal is obvious for a property with changing contours. Flat, open grass makes an excellent demonstration, but awkward terrain is where a machine earns its place in the shed. Traction, steering, and how the cutting deck follows the ground are all relevant to that job.
It is still worth matching the mower to the property rather than treating the maximum slope rating as a personal challenge. The best outcome is a boringly consistent lawn, not a crowd gathering to see whether your new garden appliance can summit the bank behind the garage.

A 210W charger and adaptive recharging are also part of the announced package. The idea is to calculate what remains to be cut, take on enough energy, and return to the task. That is a considerate approach to a break. Some human lawn crews, including this writer’s imaginary one, have been known to turn a water stop into the entire afternoon.
For a larger lawn, coverage is about the whole routine: cutting, repositioning, charging, and returning. A machine that can move efficiently between those stages has a more persuasive story than one impressive number presented in isolation.
