Camping has a funny way of turning one sandwich into a logistics department. The knife is in the car, the plates are under a sleeping bag, and your cutting board is currently a chair. HECHEER’s modular camp kitchen tries to give that wandering outdoor meal a proper address: one aluminum box that opens into storage, shelves, and work surfaces.

HECHEER modular camp kitchen expanded with labeled storage and work surfaces

The idea is wonderfully literal. Carry the case to your spot, open it, raise the worktop, and unfold the panels. Instead of spreading kitchen equipment across whatever flat objects nature has reluctantly provided, you get a compact station with distinct places for preparing food and keeping supplies.

HECHEER is promoting the system through Kickstarter, so this is a crowdfunding product rather than a kitchen you should assume will arrive before next weekend’s trip. It also comes in configurations with different cooking equipment. The box and the electric cooking setup are not automatically the same purchase.

A kitchen cabinet with travel plans

The main body is aluminum alloy, with a listed net weight of 12.5 kilograms, or 27.6 pounds. Folded dimensions are 730 by 416 by 385 millimeters, roughly 28.7 by 16.4 by 15.2 inches. Those numbers describe something you make room for in a vehicle, not something you casually slide beside a granola bar in a daypack.

That distinction is part of its appeal. This is for the camper whose idea of roughing it still involves a designated prep area. Car camping, RV stops, and backyard cooking make much more sense than carrying it several miles uphill while questioning every decision that brought you there.

Handles on the sides give the case an obvious carrying arrangement. Inside, the main compartment offers a stated 50 liters of storage. That is useful space for organizing cookware and supplies, although what actually fits depends on how enthusiastically you believe a weekend requires three frying pans.

The front aluminum door folds down, and HECHEER describes it as a temporary tabletop. A locking handle keeps the storage area closed when packed. It is a pleasingly direct solution to the traditional camping cupboard, which is usually a plastic bin with an onion rolling around underneath everything.

Three levels, fewer missing utensils

Above that main compartment sits another storage layer, revealed when the worktop lifts. The manufacturer describes drainage in this middle area for fresh ingredients, cleaning supplies, and wet gear. It gives you somewhere to separate the things you need during cooking from the things you packed for later.

The raised top supplies the main working area. HECHEER uses a hydraulic lift arrangement with two height positions, and the published expanded height reaches 19.4 inches. Think low camp-chair territory when planning your setup. It is worth picturing yourself using it before imagining a full-height kitchen island materializing beside the tent.

The folding panels extend that working footprint. They are not just decorative metal wings: the flat surfaces make room for plates, ingredients, seasonings, and the other small items that somehow take over every outdoor meal. Gas assistance helps the side panels open smoothly.

  • Keep cookware and supplies in the 50-liter main compartment.
  • Use the middle layer to organize items needed during food preparation.
  • Unfold additional surfaces for serving and prep work.
  • Hang utensils, cups, and towels from the integrated rails.
  • Use threaded mounting points with compatible accessories such as a light stand or utensil rack.

Those mounting points are a small detail with real campsite appeal. A place to attach a light can be especially welcome when dinner has drifted past sunset because someone decided the fire needed another twenty minutes of staring. Accessories and their compatibility still need checking when choosing a configuration.

The box is only part of the cooking equation

HECHEER offers an electric cooking arrangement with two zones and separate rotary controls. The maker describes using one zone for boiling or simmering while the other handles grilling or sauteing with the appropriate accessories. Its pictured tools include a kettle, pot, and grill plate designed around that system.

The important shopping detail is that the electric cooking equipment is optional. A base kitchen box provides the storage and workstation; it should not be mistaken for a complete powered cooker. Choose the equipment package deliberately, rather than letting a particularly appetizing photograph make the decision.

Electric cooking also needs an appropriate external power supply. HECHEER’s burner specification lists 220-volt or 120-volt versions at 50/60 Hz. Confirm the version, rated demand, and your power source before ordering. A campsite with beautiful views is not necessarily a campsite with compatible electricity.

For people who prefer flame cooking, the modular top can accommodate the optional HCMK-LT01 burner module and a compatible butane stove. The stove is a separate item. The appeal is the ability to organize a familiar cooking setup within the workstation, rather than balancing it on whatever surface survived the unpacking.

Cookware hanging from the modular camp kitchen rails

Finally, somewhere to put the spatula

Integrated hanging rails may be less glamorous than a lifting worktop, but they address a very recognizable nuisance. Cups, towels, and cooking utensils can stay within reach instead of migrating between a cooler lid, a picnic bench, and someone’s lap.

The result is an outdoor kitchen that puts organization ahead of improvisation. You still bring the food, choose suitable cooking equipment, and clean up afterward. No folding panel has yet solved the problem of the person who volunteers to eat and then mysteriously disappears during washing up.

There are practical limits to all that unfolding, too. The expanded dimensions are considerably larger than the closed case, so leave space around the station. A neatly packed box does not mean its open form will fit every narrow RV spot or crowded picnic arrangement.

Preparing vegetables on a HECHEER folding work surface

Its best audience is easy to picture: someone who cooks outdoors regularly and wants a repeatable place for everything. If your entire camp menu consists of opening a bag and looking pleased, a modular kitchen is probably more infrastructure than dinner requires.

For the person chopping vegetables, juggling cookware, and feeding a small gathering, the appeal is clearer. A separate storage compartment, middle shelf, and prep area give those tasks some order. The most luxurious feature may simply be knowing where you put the salt.
